Springfield Symphony offers a European tour staff
Updated: 2015-03-05 08:55:02
Michael Murray and Jacqueline Trtan, Springfield Symphony Orchestra's principal cellists, will perform in "Europen Treasures," or the lighter side of classical melodies.

The Springfield Symphony will take its audience on a little European tour as it performs its "European Treasures." The event will take place at 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, Mar. 21, 2015, at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, 525 S John Q Hammons Pkwy, Springfield.

"This concert is the lighter side of classical music--the kind of simply elegant melodies we associate with "Downton Abbey" or a Jane Austen movie soundtrack," said Kyle Wiley Pickett, music director/conductor for the Springfield Symphony. "We will perform Haydn's playful Symphony 88 and Ravel's classical-inspired Tombeau de Couperin, which is an audience favorite. We will also feature Michael Murray and Jacqueline Trtan, two of our own cellists, in the delightful Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto.

Also performing will be the Springfield Youth Symphony in a side-by-side performance of Brahms's Hungarian Dances Number 5 and 6.

"It will be an exciting opportunity for us to highlight the talent of young people from right here in our community, and I look forward to this fun performance together," Pickett said.

The pre-concert lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the performance hall and pre-concert music will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall box office, and may be purchased by calling (417) 836-7678. Ticket prices range from $11 - $33 with discounts available for students and seniors.
