Ozark Piecemakers quilt show is Sept. 18-20  staff

Forty-seven members of the Ozark Piecemakers participated in creating this 2014 Opportunity Quilt featuring a Missouri theme. The applique features the Missouri state bird, the bluebird; the state flower, the hawthorn; and the state tree, the dogwood. Also featured are magnolias and violets surrounding an old wagon wheel. Missouri Star blocks surround the center appliqu, while paper pieced Missouri River Valley blocks frame the center medallion. The quilt that will be auctioned off measures 99 square inches.

The Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guilds 2014 Show, Celebrate Quilting, will be September 18, 19, and 20, 2014, at the Springfield Expo Center, 635 East St. Louis, Springfield. Show hours are from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

General admission is $6. A three-day pass is available for $10. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free. Individual admission for groups of 10 or more is $5. Pre-admission tickets are $5 and will be available at area quilt shops. Lectures are free for show attendees with limited seating available.

Elsie Campbell of Ponca City, Oklahoma, will be the shows judge and a featured speaker. On Thursday she will present Innovations and Renovations at 10 a.m. and Tweaking Tradition at 2 p.m.. Campbell is an award-winning textile artist and quilt designer, international quilting teacher and author.

Lori East of Carthage on Friday will present two lectures, Whats She Looking for? about appraising quilts at 10 a.m. and Piecing with Neutrals at 2 p.m. She also will offer quilt appraisals at the show by appointment on Saturday. East is an American Quilters Society certified appraiser of quilts and quilted textiles.

Other special programs include "Antique Quilt Bed Turnings" at 11:30 a.m. on all three days of the show and at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. A Wearable Art Fashion Show of quilted garments and accessories made by members will be presented at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Special displays will feature an art quilt challenge by the Missouri River Valley Rambling Art Quilters and a Hoffman Challenge Exhibit.

Ongoing will be the guilds silent auction, which will feature quilts of all sizes, its ever popular boutique, Bits & Pieces, and an extensive vendors mall.

The show will end with a drawing for the guilds 2014 Donation Quilt, Show Me Missouri at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chances are $1 or six for $5.

Guild displays are planned by the Featherweight Club, Quilt Odyssey Fabric Art Group and Turning Points Applique Group, as well as its community outreach programs: Community Quilts and Quilts of Valor.

Include the appropriate number of address labels to place on the tickets and a self- addressed stamped envelope so your purchase may be confirmed and the ticket stubs sent to you.
