At approximately 5:37 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, Springfield Police responded to 2100 E. Norshire to check the well-being of two individuals after receiving a 911 call from a child in the home. Once police arrived, the bodies of Rudolph and Stephanie Fajardo were discovered in a bedroom. In addition to the 7-year-old child that called 911, officers found the couples other three children, ages 6, 3, and 1, in the home. None of the children was injured.
Autopsies were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 9, and preliminary results indicated that both Rudolph and Stephanie Fajardo died as a result of gunshot wounds. A final determination of the cause and manner of death will be made by the Medical Examiners Office at a later time.
Initial indications from the crime scene processing and follow-up investigation are that Rudolph Fajardo shot and killed Stephanie Fajardo before taking his own life. The investigation will continue until a final determination is made. More specific details of the investigation will not be released at this time. Based on this information, no suspects are being sought and there is no indication of a threat or danger to others in the community.
