Greene County gets mouthpiece ehedlun
Updated: 2016-03-31 17:58:12

Jennifer McClure of Springfield, pictured, has been hired as director of communications and public engagement, according to a release from the Greene County Commission. The new position is the Greene County Commission's effort to "facilitate public dialogue and promote transparency." She joins the county team in April.

"This position demonstrates our commitment to provide greater access to information and opportunities for dialogue to Greene County's nearly 300,000 citizens," said Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Cirtin. "Conservatively, Greene County employees conduct more than 2,000,000 service-related interactions with residents a year. Whether it's responding to emergencies, conducting elections or processing legal transactions, it takes planned, professional communication to function effectively and accountably at this level for our constituents."

McClure has worked in communication and public affairs in the Greene County region for 25 years including stints as director of public affairs for the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield and communications manager for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

As director of communications and public engagement, McClure will provide leadership for the commission in management of strategic communications efforts including media relations and digital communications.

"McClure's skills are well-suited to the public engagement focus of this position," said Cirtin. "It will be a priority to ensure Greene County is using communication channels not only to disseminate information but also to listen and invite feedback from those we are here to serve."

"Believing in the mission and integrity of the organization and its people has been a key component of my professional choices," said McClure. "I have tremendous faith in Greene County and its leadership. I feel very passionate about working for a public entity that respects the hard working people who fund government and knows good-faith communication with them is essential to building trust and achieving transparency."

McClure has been involved in a number of civic and volunteer organizations including serving on the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. She and her husband Kyle have one son who attends high school in Springfield. A Drury University graduate, McClure received a master's degree from the University School of Journalism.
