New group formed to fight for states rights wildblue

To the editor:

Now that our 4th of July celebrations proclaiming our Independence from British tyranny are over, our attentions should turn to the tyranny coming from our Federal Government in Washington D.C. There is quite a bit of talk of the out of control power from our federal government lately and rightly so. Both Republicans and Democrats have long instigated this creation of absolute power over We the People and it must come to an end before its too late for this republic of the United States to survive.

Fortunately our Founding Fathers knew that the Constitution might need to change. They provided two ways for Constitutional amendments to be proposed and ratified: first, through Congress and secondly through the States. Without regard to using one of these options, Washington, primarily through the Supreme Court, has decided which parts of the Constitution need to be changed per the courts interpretation. Some in the government, collectively have interpreted specific constitutional clauses as living so as to advance special or faddish interests, a clear separation from the original charter of the Constitution along with the 27 amendments. Not to mention direct violations to their Oaths of Offices.

Article V of the Constitution allows states to call for a Conventions of States, for the sole purpose of proposing amendments to the Constitution. Convention of States can only propose amendments not rewrite the Constitution. Any proposed amendments must be ratified by 38 states. It is time that We the People of the United States act on our option through Missouris legislature.

Also, Citizens for Self-Governance a national organization, organized the Convention of States Project which formed individual state leadership teams to energize citizens at the state level. The great state of Missouri has a leadership team in place to spearhead this movement.

Weve reached a crossroads. One continues the escalating power of an irresponsible centralized government, ultimately resulting in the financial ruin of generations of Americans. The other path leads to the return of many of our intended constitutional freedoms outlined and ratified in the Constitution by our founding fathers.

Ive chosen to volunteer and work with the Missouri Convention of States Project. I urge every one of my fellow Missouri citizens to become active at whatever level of involvement capable. The true power lays with us the citizens of the United States of America.

Thank You for standing!

Kevin Johnson, Neosho, MO
