Suspect is arrested in hit and run accident vholland

The suspect, who left the scene of an accident that occurred Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2013, resulting in the death of Zachary Gibson, 23, of Springfield, was arrested on November 19, 2013, by the Springfield Police Department. Shannon R. Smith, 31, was located in Buffalo and taken into custody with the assistance of the Buffalo Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Smith was transported to the Greene County Jail and booked for Involuntary Manslaughter charges based on probable cause. She has not yet been formally charged. The investigation is ongoing.

Gibson had been traveling west on a bicycle crossing Kimbrough, according to a witnesses, when a white sedan traveling south on Kimbrough struck Gibson and left the scene. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene.

An anonymous tip received through Crime Stoppers led to the recovery of the suspect vehicle in the 600 block of West Edgewood Monday morning.
