Wichmer accepts new post at LSSM stafff
Updated: 2016-03-02 10:53:22

Daniel R. Wichmer, pictured, Springfield's city attorney, has been selected by the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Southern Missouri (LSSM) as their new executive director.

We are very pleased that Dan has agreed to serve as LSSMs executive director. His extensive management and legal experience, combined with his understanding of the work of LSSM, makes him the ideal person to lead LSSM, Board President Craig R. Heidemann said.

Wichmer became the legal mouthpiece for Springfield in May 2005 after serving as Branson's city attorney for two years. He has practiced with Miller & Sanford P.C. and Lathrop & Gage. His last day will be March 11, 2016.

Dan has been a key member of our leadership team. Given the functional diversity of the city, Dan has led a team covering many areas, said Greg Burris, Springfield City Manager. One of the things Ive most admired about Dan has been his interest in mentoring young attorneys and helping them get their start through internships at the city.

The city of Springfield currently is conducting a search for Wichmer's replacement. According to Burris, the duties of the city Attorney are to provide legal advice to 22 different City departments, the city council and all citizen boards and task forces. Under his direction, the 16-person law department serves as an in-house, full-service law firm, handling litigation for the city and drafting all of the city's council bills and contracts. In any given year, thats close to 300 ordinances and 700 contracts.

Wichmer was awarded a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, United States District Court, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable John C. Holstein for the Missouri Supreme Court and is a member of the Order of Barristers. He also has taught a course in legal writing and the law at Drury University and was an instructor for the American Banking Association Continuing Education programs. He currently is an editor for the Missouri Courts and CLE Bulletin, Torts Section.
