Free social action conference is scheduled staff
Updated: 2015-10-03 10:22:03
A Stop the Violence Conference will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, in the Plaster Student Union on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield. Sponsored by Verizon Wireless the event is a community call to action to stop intimate partner violence. There is no admission charge.

Coordinated by the Family Violence Task Force and led by the Community Partnership of the Ozarks' Violence Free Families Coalition, the event features workshops on human trafficking and the effects of domestic violence on children. "Together We Can: Understanding and Preventing Sexual Violence" presented by Jeffrey Bucholtz will be an interactive exploration of the ways in which our culture facilitates sexual violence. Matthew Dale, president of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council, will explore the role teams play in reviewing domestic violence and Drs. Curt and Christie Brungardt, professors and leaders at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, will speak about Jana's Campaign, one family's efforts to honor their daughter, a University of Kansas law school student, activist and advocate, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2008.

Information about other breakout sessions may be found here.
