Farris and Rauh will be featured artists in June staff
Updated: 2015-05-09 17:04:45
Alicia Farris and Carl Rauh will be the featured artists in June at the Fresh Gallery, according to an announcement by spokesperson Angel Brame. Meet them from 6-10 p.m. on First Friday (June 5, 2015) at the gallery's location, 400 W. Walnut Street (corner of Campbell) in downtown Springfield.

This watercolor by Alicia Farris is called "Morning Commute."

An original Fresh member, Farris' specialties are watercolor cityscapes and acrylics landscapes. She also paints portraits and still life. She strives to include in her subject matter an emotion created through the effect that light and color have on one another, making demands on her audience to be engaged. This is what she teaches her students to achieve, simply not to just render subject matter with exactness but to include an emotional interpretation that renders the artwork unique and personal.

Farris conducts workshops at the Creamery Arts Center through the Springfield Regional Arts Council. She also schedules classes throughout the Midwest.

Carl Rauh has created this cross out of recycled wood.

The majority of Rauh's crafted pieces, including 3D sculpture, walking sticks/shafts, wands, bowls and charms are from reclaimed or recycled wood, saving it from rotting away or being burned in a brush pile. He likes to use pieces of wood with character and enhance or free the natural beauty that lies within it. He likes the feel of the wood and encourages others to enjoy its touch as well.

Beside wood, Rauh works in stone and various metals. He contributes to VisionCon's costume contest, creating a finish to participants' superhero costuming by selling them wands, wizard walking staffs and canes and other custom burn pieces.

Fresh Gallery is also part of Springfield's Second Saturdays. Several Fresh members will be at the gallery on June 13, 2015.

Any artist wishing information on becoming a member of this collective and exhibiting at Fresh Gallery should phone them at (417) 882-9300.
