Neosho Arts Council announces contests staff

The Neosho Arts Council has issued a call to two-dimensional artists (no photography, digital works or 3D works) to enter The Hermann Jaeger Juried Fine Art Competition. The regional contest is open to all artists 18-years-of-age or older living in Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The deadline to enter is July 20, 2015.

Monetary awards are $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. In addition, all accepted entries will be included in an online exhibition catalog published by the council. The exhibit will be displayed at the Neosho Chamber of Commerce.

Emi Gennis, assistant professor of art at Pittsburg State University, will act as juror. Gennis holds a Bachelor of Art from the University of Chicago and a Master's in Fine Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. An illustrator and cartoonist, Gennis has been published and has exhibited internationally.

A fee of $35 and a a jpg representation of the work (maximum three) must be included with each entry. If selected, all work must be framed (maximum size 24 sq. in.), wired for hanging and submitted by August 21, 2015. Plexiglass must be used instead of glass. Work will be on display until October 12, 2015.

All work must be for sale. A 30% commission will be collected by the Neosho Arts Council.

Kids' contest is also announced

The 5th Annual Photosquared Kids' Photo Class and Contest sponsored by the Neosho Arts Council will take place on August 8, 2015, at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery, 520 Park St., Neosho. An age-appropriate lecture in photography will be presented beginning at 10 a.m. before students will be set loose to practice their skills.

The class will be held in conjunction with a photo contest. Kids will have two weeks to photograph up to 25 subjects for approval. Selected entries (1-3) will be displayed at the Neosho Fall Harvest Arts and Crafts Festival at the Neosho Civic Center. After the event photographs will be returned.

Tuition for the class is $20 per child. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. The maximum class size is 20.
