Law enforcement agencies throughout Missouri, including the Billings Police Department, participated in a statewide effort to get more motorists to buckle up and save more lives.
During the enforcement effort, the April 14th Click It or Ticket mobilization, Billings' officers issued a dozen tickets including: six for speeding, three for uninsured motorist and three for other various moving violations. Officers also issued six warnings to motorists for various violations.
Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, nearly one in four Missouri motorists are still not making it click. Seven out of 10 Missourians killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.
Seat belts save lives. Not only for the person wearing it, but for all the passengers inside the vehicle with you, Lt. Karl Cuschieri said. During a crash, unbuckled occupants become moving objects that injure and/or kill the other occupants in the vehicle with them. Unbuckled occupants are also more likely to be ejected out of the vehicle during a rollover crash.
