Independent study names Verizon top mobile carrier staff
Updated: 2014-03-05 14:21:52
RootMetrics (a.k.a. Root Wireless), a Bellevue, Washington company that specializes in wireless coverage mapping, for the first time has just produced a report on the nation's top mobile carriers. RootMetrics' National RootScore Study objectively has awarded top honors for overall performance to the Verizon Wireless network in Missouri as well as in 44 other states. Categories in which Verizon excelled were reliability, data, call and text, lagging behind AT&T only in speed, according to the study.

Verizon claims to operate the nation's largest 4G LTE network in the country, twice as large as their nearest competitor. The 4G LTE network was introduced in Missouri in December 2010 and rolled out in June 2013.

In 2013 Verizon began deploying AWS spectrum, dubbed the "LTE monster" to meet added data capacity in various markets. The company likely would have scored higher in the speed category had the RootScore Study used AWS-enabled devices that include the iPhone 5s and 5c, the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Motorola Droid Maxx Mini and Ultra and several LTE modems. Software updates are being devised for older cellphone models.

A summary of the RootMetrics' National RootScore Study may be found here. Included in the study were Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.
