It passed. Yay.
"No we don't need to raise taxes," is the message Ozark Superintendent of Schools Kevin D. Patterson, Ed.D., pictured, wants to get across to voters in his R-6 school district. A yes vote is needed on April 7, 2015, for a bond issue that would raise funds for several improvements to the schools. The present tax levy would be sufficient to pay off the interest and principal on the bonds.
What is planned is the addition of six classrooms and a shared learning area/storm shelter in each of the four present elementary schools. In addition, the junior high west building would be connected by a cafeteria doubling as a storm shelter and allowing students to transfer between the buildings without having to go outside. The junior high also would be updated.
Changes planned would allow new grade configurations and better use of space. They would be K-5 (using four elementary buildings), 6-7 (creating a middle school), 8-9 (junior high) and 10-12 (high school).
"We have written grants for these projects, and if we receive some of the grants, we would look at the Junior High Activities facility," Patterson said. "We would only look at the junior high activities facility after the projects [mentioned] were funded."
