| The Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a single vehicle crash at 3909 S. Campbell at 9:21 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. It was reported that the vehicle was engulfed in flames and the driver was trapped. Several citizens and the Springfield Fire Department also arrived quickly and attempted to free the driver who died at the scene.
The vehicle had been southbound on Campbell, went into the west drainage ditch and continued in the ditch until it struck the culvert.
The deceased driver has been identified as Jesse A.J. McCoy, 21, of Nixa. Next of kin has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
