At 11:32 p.m. on Aug. 15, Springfield officers were dispatched to a crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian near the Campbell Avenue exit on James River Freeway. Gregory Collins, 37, of Brookline, was struck by a vehicle driven by Charla Lascasas, 53, of Nixa.

Lascasas was driving eastbound in the outside lane on James River Freeway, just west of the Campbell Avenue exit, when she struck Collins who was walking. Collins was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Lascasas was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Prior to this fatal crash, Collins had been involved in another crash just west of this site, and he had been outside of his vehicle awaiting a ride.
