Stop! Yield! Go! Kids jfinney
Updated: 2014-06-28 17:25:02
A miniature town was constructed by the Nixa Police Department for kids ages 4, 5 and 6 who were able to take to the streets in small pedal cars. The pre-elementary school students were asked to obey traffic signals and signs while enrolled in a program, the first of its kind in Missouri, that teaches safety rules. Classroom topics dealing with safety included animals, strangers, fire, cars, bikes, playgrounds, school bus use as well as an introduction to police officers and how to use 911 for emergencies. The course in part was conducted at the Nixa Community Center by Nixa DARE Officer Brent Forgey.
