Home attic damaged in arson attempt c-erwin
Updated: 2014-01-10 11:35:10
A Springfield man faces three criminal charges, following an incident at his home on December 28, 2013. Doyle Huskey, 34, is charged with 2nd degree arson, 2nd degree assault on law enforcement and emergency personnel and unlawful possession, transport, manufacture repair or sale of an illegal weapon. Fire crews were called to 1616 N. Hillcrest Ave. in Springfield after reports of heavy fire in the attic of the two-story residence.

While inside the home, crews found a propane tank that had been altered to be an explosive/incendiary device. The propane cylinder had been altered to prevent the safety vent from operating if the tank became over-pressurized and the outlet valve was altered to allow gas to flow when the valve was turned on. Investigators believe Huskey altered the propane tank in retaliation against his girlfriend, who was also living in the home.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, however, the attic of the home sustained heavy fire damage. Huskey was transported to Mercy Hospital for injuries unrelated to the fire. He was arrested at the hospital and later was charged.
