Tire Rack is sponsoring Street Survival training for teens. Supported by the BMW Car Club of America Foundation since April 2002, the primary emphasis is providing a "hands-on" driving experience in real-world situations through use of the teen's own car.
Students will become more observant of the traffic situations they find themselves in, learning to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They also will understand why they should always wear their own seat-belts and demand that seat-belts be worn by their passengers.
All cars brought to the teen safety school must be in good mechanical condition in the opinion of the instructor and legally licensed. No-nos include the use of nitrous oxide, high center of gravity vehicles like SUVs or race cars or cars that have loose objects, worn tires or be low on fuel. All students need to be properly dressed for any type of weather with closed toe shoes and not sandals.
The next school to be held locally will take place from 8 a.m to 4 p.m on November 15, 2014, at Duck's Stadium, 4400 N. 17th St., Ozark. For a list of other schools go here. The cost to participate is $75 per student.
Parents of all minors must sign a waiver of indemnity found here. For registration (four steps) go here.
